2013 Points Take Effect after Vegas: Following this weekend’s Sam’s Town 300, the 2013 owners’ points will take effect in determining those guaranteed a starting position in each race. After the first two races of the 2013 season, Eric McClure and his owner Mark Smith sit 20th in the NASCAR Owner Standings.
McClure in Vegas: The Sam’s Town 300 marks the Virginia native’s 202nd Nationwide Series start and his 8th at the speedway. In seven starts, the 34-year-old driver has completed 98% of the total laps attempted and has an average finish of 22.1. One year ago, McClure posted a 25th-place finish after fighting an ill-handling car throughout the 200-lap event.
Chassis No. 12: McClure will be piloting chassis No. 12 out of the TriStar Motorsports stable for this weekend’s running of the Sam’s Town 300. This car was last used by McClure during the 2012 season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where the team posted a 27th-place finish.
Home for 48 hours: While his team went straight to Las Vegas from Phoenix, McClure flew the red-eye flight home for a mere 48 hours to be with his daughter Mabreigh, who turned six on Tuesday, March 5th. The family will celebrate her birthday during one of McClure’s upcoming off-weekends.
Phoenix Recap: McClure started the Dollar General 200 in the 20th position and was on track to earning a track-best finish until an engine failure with 13 laps remaining relegated the team to a 29th-place finish.
Tune-In: Saturday’s 300-mile race from Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be televised live on ESPN 2 at 4:00pm (ET). PRN (Performance Racing Network) and SiriusXM Radio Channel 90 will also broadcast the event live on Saturday, March 9.
