Fresh From Sundance Film Festival, Race Car Driver Leilani Münter Focuses on ARCA Season Opener at Daytona With Energy Freedom Message on the Track and on TV

Energy Freedom Commercial to Debut During Race

Concord, NC (February 4, 2015) – Driver Leilani Münter is just back from the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where the documentary film she stars in — “Racing Extinction” – had its premiere.

Now, she is turning her attention back to the track and the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards (ARCA) season opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 14th. She has re-signed with Venturini Motorsports, and will drive the No. 66 Energy Freedom racecar at the World Center of Racing in the biggest event of the season. She also stars in a commercial that will premiere during the live FOX SPORTS 1 broadcast, bringing the Energy Freedom message to the small screen. “I’m honored to carry the colors of Energy Freedom and100.org at Daytona. Freedom, independence, and self-sufficiency are at the heart of who we are as a nation,” said Leilani Münter.

As a personal owner of solar panels and an electric car, the move towards a renewable energy future for America is very close to Leilani’s heart.

“With the cost of solar dropping by 80% in the last five years — and in some states solar installation is now available for zero money down — solar energy is a solution available to Americans across the country. You can now produce and own your own power with the sun that lands on your roof every day.”

Energy Freedom is a new campaign to encourage Americans from across the country to embrace clean, renewable energy choices that are affordable, healthy and secure. The campaign, a collaboration between Leilani Münter and the Solutions Project, is focused on spreading the word among auto racing fans that Energy Freedom is a path toward a better future for their families and for the country as a whole.

By driving the Energy Freedom car at Daytona, Leilani is inviting racing fans to be part of the effort to move the nation to a stronger, more prosperous, and healthier future through clean, renewable, homegrown energy. More information can be found at 100.org.

During her 2014 freshman season with Venturini Motorsports, Leilani impressed with three top-15 finishes in just four ARCA Series starts. She set career highs with a pair of 12th place finishes at both Chicagoland and Kansas Speedways and a solid 8th place qualifying spot at Talladega Superspeedway during the spring race.

In her previous Daytona start, Leilani settled for a disappointing 28th place finish an on-track incident caused by another competitor damaged her car.

During off-season testing at Daytona, Leilani posted some of the fastest lap times set by the field during the two-day test. The team expects Leilani to continue her success and compete for a win once the green flag drops next week.

Veteran crew chief Jeff McClure will oversee the Energy Freedom team at Daytona. Leilani and McClure have worked together in her last three ARCA Series starts.

Leilani made history off the track last summer by making an electric road trip “oil free” across seven states in her Tesla Model S on her way to the ARCA event at Chicagoland Speedway. This year, she will take a second “Electric Trip,” this time from her Charlotte, North Carolina home to Daytona Beach. Her upcoming “Electric Route to the Racetrack” will include a series of meet-and-greets with fans at the Tesla Superchargers along the way.

The 63rd season for the ARCA Racing Series will kick off at Speedweeks in Daytona with its first practice session Thursday, February 12 from 4-6:00 p.m. ET with the second and final practice session following Friday morning from 9:30-10:30. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell, in group sessions, will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 13. The Lucas Oil 200, which serves as the preamble for NASCAR’s Sprint Unlimited, is set to get the green flag at 4:30 p.m. Saturday – Live on FOX SPORTS 1.
