Reed Finishes 20th in the Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 25, 2015) – Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed and the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association team finished 20th on Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the Lilly Diabetes 250.

“We fought handling issues all day and the car was just not responding to the adjustments we made,” said Reed. “The team worked hard all weekend to improve our No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang, but it just wasn’t our weekend. I can’t thank Lilly Diabetes, the American Diabetes Association and their employees enough for coming out to the race today and supporting us. Hopefully we can turn our luck around and have a good run at Iowa next weekend.”

Reed started the 100-lap event from the 22nd position after fighting the handling of the car since the first practice session on Friday morning. Within the first 10 laps, Reed reported that the car was loose center-off and wouldn’t turn in the center of the corners.

Crew chief Seth Barbour brought Reed down pit road under the Lap 12 caution flag while running 20th. The team made a track bar and air pressure adjustment to help the handling of the car in addition to putting on four fresh tires. The team’s quick work on pit road put Reed in the 17th position for the restart.

By the second caution of the afternoon on Lap 22, Reed held on to the 19th position and reported that the car still wouldn’t turn. Barbour brought his driver down pit road for a track bar and wedge adjustment. Reed restarted in the 18th position with 70 laps left in the event.

By the halfway point in the race, Reed reported that the car was really free on entry into the turns. Shortly after, the team made their only green flag pit stop of the race on Lap 63 for four fresh tires.

By the caution flag on Lap 70, Reed maintained the 20th position and said that the car had no front turn. On Lap 76, Reed briefly got into the grass after getting sideways but saved the car and quickly returned to the racing surface.

Reed reported a vibration in the right front of the car in the closing laps of Saturday afternoon’s event but held on to finish 20th.

Reed falls to tenth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250. He and the No. 16 team return to the track on Saturday, August 1 at Iowa Speedway.
