MIS NEWS: Bayne takes a tour to promote the Pure Michigan 400

DETROIT (August 4, 2015) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Trevor Bayne attended several events in Detroit on Tuesday to promote the Aug. 16 Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Bayne’s day started with an early morning wake-up after his original flight from Charlotte was cancelled.

The first stop of the day for Bayne in Detroit was at the CBS Performance Studio. He and MIS President Roger Curtis conducted a fan question and answer session with all the great NASCAR fans in attendance.

By the end, all the fans were ready for the Pure Michigan 400.

“I definitely want to win at Michigan,” the Roush Fenway Racing driver said. “It’s a great track, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with everyone from Ford Performance in our backyard.”

And what fan Q&A would be complete without autographs and photos? Bayne graciously stayed to meet with all the fans in attendance.

Then Bayne was off to take a “tour” of the state of Michigan at the Outdoor Adventure Center. Located on Detroit’s riverfront in the historic Globe Building, with the Dequindre Cut Trail running through its backyard, the Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) gives you a taste of Michigan’s great outdoors in the heart of the city.

The OAC allows youth to experience Michigan’s exciting outdoor adventures with hands-on activities, exhibits and simulators. Kids can walk behind and touch a waterfall, step into a fishing boat and reel in a big fish, hit the trail on a mountain bike or snowmobile and much more. It brings the outdoors to Detroit.

The former, 41,000-square-foot warehouse built in 1890 sat vacant for about 30 years before it was turned into an outdoor center. The center includes a 60-foot-long archery range, a 15-foot waterfall, simulators for things like all-terrain vehicle riding, a retail shop, 3,000-gallon freshwater aquarium, food court, cafeteria and meeting room, banquet space, lab area, video monitors with a live high-definition video stream to a bald eagle’s nest, deer blind tower, features on urban gardening, time capsule and other interactive features.

Bayne rode the trails in an ATV with students from Recreation Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe Summer Day Camp program in Roseville, Michigan. He even went fishing, kayaking and climbed a tree.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to Michigan for the summer during the Pure Michigan 400. Tickets are available for all the races at Michigan International Speedway, August 14-16. Visit www.MISpeedway.com or call 800-354-1010.

It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
