Armstrong Looks to Rebound at the Track “Too Tough To Tame”

No. 43 Winfield Team Needs Good Performance to Regain Traction in Points Race

The month of August was tough for the No. 43 WinField team with late race accidents and mechanical issues robbing the team of good results in four of the five races. To finish the month off, a cut brake line on Lap 13 took Dakoda Armstrong out of contention early at Road America. With the arrival of September, Armstrong hopes to shake all the bad luck off with a strong performance at one of the sport’s most historic racetracks, Darlington Raceway.

Armstrong has just one start at Darlington Raceway in the XFINITY Series race in 2014 where he scored a Top-20 finish. As an organization, RPM made three XFINITY Series starts at the egg-shaped oval, with a Top-20 finish in each of its starts. Currently, Armstrong sits 13th in the XFINITY Series Championship Point Standings.

“I’ve only been to Darlington once and learned a lot in my first start. This track has a big learning curve. ‘The Lady in Black’ certainly has a deep history and has earned its reputation. It has the greatest sensation of speed of all the tracks we go to. The fast line is right next to the wall and the groove is narrow, so passing is very difficult. It’s the toughest track we race. I’m still learning. Last year, I was able to finish without the ‘Darlington Stripe’. If I can learn as much this time as we did in my first start, we’ll have a good day.”
No. 43 WinField Ford
A performance and marketing driven company, Richard Petty Motorsports, co-owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty and successful business entrepreneur Andrew Murstein, is one of the most recognized brands in all of motorsports. With a history of over 200 wins and business partnerships with national and global leaders, today the race operation fields two teams in competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Aric Almirola pilots the famous No. 43 Ford Fusion with primary partners Smithfield Foods, U.S. Air Force, STP and Fresh From Florida, and Sam Hornish Jr. drives the No. 9 machine with primary partners Medallion Bank and Twisted Tea. In addition, Dakoda Armstrong wheels the No. 43 WinField Ford Mustang full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. The team is headquartered in Mooresville, N.C.
