Another Top-10 for Chris Buescher at the Monster Mile

DOVER, Del. (Oct. 3, 2015) – Chris Buescher earned his 18th top-10 finish of the season in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Dover International Speedway. After winning at the Monster Mile earlier this season, Buescher crossed the finish line in eighth in his No. 60 Lilly Diabetes Mustang.

“It wasn’t a bad day for our Lilly Diabetes Mustang,” said Buescher. “Our guys worked really hard. We had really good pit stops. The race didn’t play out the way we needed to. We needed to be on the outside lane for one restart, but we ended up on the inside for every single one. I feel like it was a good points day for what it’s worth, but I just wish we could have gotten a little bit more.”

The NASCAR XFINITY Series traveled to Dover International Speedway for the second time of the 2015 season. Buescher returned to the track as the most recent winner at the Monster Mile, looking to defend his win from the spring.

Rain on Friday cancelled all track activity. NASCAR opted to cancel qualifying, and instead scheduled a practice session for Saturday morning. Mother Nature did not cooperate again, canceling the morning practice session and setting the starting grid based on owner’s points.

Buescher lined up third for the 200-Lap race at the one-mile track. Two competition cautions were scheduled on Lap 25 and Lap 65. Teams would not be able to take fuel until the first competition caution, and could not fuel the car in between the two competition cautions.

After starting third, Buescher settled into fifth on the opening run, radioing to his team that his Mustang was a little too free. When the caution came out on Lap 24, NASCAR called it the first competition caution.

Buescher visited pit road for right side tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. He lined up fifth for the Lap 32 restart. During the next run, the track bar adjustment proved to be a little too much, as Buescher reported his Mustang was now too tight.

When he came down pit road for the second competition caution on Lap 67, crew chief Scott Graves opted to remove one round of the previous track bar adjustment, along with taking four tires and adding fuel.

On the next run, Buescher settled into the top-10, telling his team that his Mustang started out a little too tight, but was also too free under throttle.

The No. 60 Lilly Diabetes Mustang came down pit road on Lap 112 for four tires and fuel, along with track bar and wedge adjustments. During the caution period, the race was red flagged due to rain.

After a nearly 31-minute caution period, Buescher restarted in seventh on Lap 118. He maintained his position inside the top-10 as the remainder of the race was run under green.

The No. 60 Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang was credited with an eighth-place finish. With the result, Buescher maintains a 24 point lead over second place in the point standings as the series travels to Charlotte Motor Speedway.
