SS Green Light Team Focused on the Future

David Starr and the SS Green Light Racing team are looking forward to the challenge of the largest and fastest track on the circuit Saturday when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series travels to the 2.66-mile high-banked Talladega Superspeedway.

Bill France Sr. designed and built the huge racing facility in the mid-sixties on top of an old Air-Force base to be bigger and faster than his flagship Daytona International Speedway. Since that time, fans have flocked to the track to see the fastest, closest racing in all of NASCAR. The track was repaved in 2006 and the NCWTS was the first to compete on the new surface and has returned for the last five seasons thrilling race fans with exciting side-by-side racing.

“Talladega is a great place to race and there is just so much history there. With the restrictor plates on these trucks it makes for some great side-by-side racing; it’s a great show for the fans.”

The Build Your Future Campaign will join Zachry, David Starr and the SS Green Light Racing Team for this Saturday’s Coca-Cola 250 presented by fred’s. Initially developed by NCCER, the Build Your Future Campaign is a national education and recruitment campaign created to increase awareness of the rewarding careers available in the construction industry.

“We’re real excited to have NCCER and the Build Your Future Campaign on board with us this weekend; it’s a real honor,” Starr said. “Build Your Future is a partner with Zachry and they are working to shape the future of the construction industry. We look forward to an exciting race and do a great job for them.”

“It’s a great organization that gives opportunities to young people who are interested in the construction industry as a career and we’re proud to have them on the truck with us this weekend in Talladega.”   I

n five previous NCWTS races at Talladega, David has an average start of 16.0 and his average finish 14.0. His best finish was fifth in 2009 and he finished eleventh in the No. 81 Toyota last year. David has completed 100% of the possible laps over the five races at Talladega.

Starr is currently twelfth in the NCWTS standings with just four races remaining on the 2011 schedule.

“After coming off a great run at Vegas where we had a great Zachry Tundra and we were headed towards a top-five finish. Unfortunately, we had some debris rupture the radiator and we lost all the water and ended up blowing up the engine.”

“We still have to get this monkey off our back, but as strong a truck we had last week I feel we have some momentum coming into this race. Everyone on our Zachry Toyota team is trying to do all we can to get into the top-ten in points. There are only four races left so Talladega is critical to have a shot to get into the top-ten.”

“It’s a big weekend for us with NCCER and Build Your Future and we plan to give them a great finish. Hopefully the racing gods will be with us and give us some good luck at Talladega so we can get back into the top-ten where we belong.”

The Coca-Cola 250 powered by fred’s is the 267th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 287th career start for Starr in the Truck Series. David has four victories, 47 top-fives and 115 top-tens through his 14-year career including two top-fives and eight top-tens so far in 2011.

There are 42 trucks on the preliminary entry list for Coca-Cola 250 powered by fred’s.   Practice will be Friday, October 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m with qualifying at 4:10 p.m. The green flag will fall on the Coca-Cola 250 powered by fred’s on Saturday, October 22nd at 3:00 pm. It will be shown live on SPEED TV. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and also Sirius XM NASCAR Radio. All times Central.
